OPEN CALL FOR PAPERS FOR AFRICA JOURNAL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY 2024

2024-03-25

THEME: ADVANCING NURSING RESEARCH IN CLIMATE CHANGE AND HEALTH

The Africa Journal of Nursing and Midwifery (AJNM) is a scholarly journal published by Unisa Press. The journal uses a double-blind peer-review system, is indexed on Scopus and accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). Currently, AJNM is using a hybrid publication model which allows authors to choose if they want to publish open access (article publication charge applies) or via the standard publication route with no cost to the author.

There is international scientific consensus that climate change poses growing threats to human health with projections that health risks will increase significantly in the absence of action to limit global warming. Multiple factors in the environmental and institutional context (e.g., changes in ecosystems, land use, infrastructure conditions); social context (e.g., poverty, education, health-care access); climate drivers (e.g., extreme weather, rising sea levels, rising temperatures); exposure pathways (e.g., poor air quality, extreme heat, reduced nutritional and water quality) have been shown to contribute to a variety of negative health consequences through complex interactions. The negative health effects associated with climate change exacerbate existing health disparities and fall disproportionately on populations that are under-resourced and/or experiencing poverty.

Nursing science has a major role to play in understanding and mitigating the impact of climate change on health.

Through this open call for papers, AJNM is inviting authors to make submissions based on original research, systematic reviews, case studies, commentaries, perspectives, letters to the editor, views and opinion pieces on advancing nursing research in climate and health with a view to address gaps in which nursing research can make a difference and/or provide a unique perspective.
