Editorial Board Membership

Africa Journal of Nursing and Midwifery (AJNM) is a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal that seeks the submission of unpublished articles on current nursing and midwifery; and health-related issues. It encourages debate, both theoretical and practical, on a wide range of topics that represent a variety of nursing and midwifery interests. The AJNM is interested in attracting submissions that exhibit innovative qualitative and quantitative research methods and other research approaches.

 We invite applications from distinguished academics with a strong track record of publications that reflect deep expertise in their research area. Professors, senior scholars, and research group leaders are especially encouraged to apply. As stewards of scholarly integrity, editorial board members play a vital role in maintaining the highest ethical standards in peer review and advancing the quality of academic publishing.

Submission deadline: 31 March 2026

Editorial board members’ key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that the AJNM is published in accordance with the directives from Unisa Senate Publication Committee (SPC)
  • Providing advice and guidance on important current research
  • Assisting with identifying and recommending intellectuals, scholars, researchers, practitioners and young scientists for potential ground-breaking contributions; and advising the editor on content (for example, suggesting specific themes and features, and new research).
  • Providing guidance and support on effective and timely achievement of all matters relating to the publication of high-quality manuscripts
  • Conducting regular meetings and be actively involved in the editorial management of AJNM and keeping minutes of meetings held
  • Providing through the chairperson of the Editorial Board, reports on AJNM matters to Unisa SPC of Unisa
  • Executing any other relevant tasks delegated by the chairperson of the AJNM Editorial Board

NB: The position of an editorial board member is voluntary, and part-time. There is no remuneration as Board Members

Minimum Requirements for Potential Board Members

  • Hold a Ph.D in Nursing or Midwifery
  • Have at least 10 relevant peer-reviewed publications or equivalent outputs in the past five years.
  • Possession of a speciality qualification in Nursing / Midwifery will be an added advantage
  • Adhere to peer review ethics, including confidentiality and conflict-of-interest disclosure.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with editors and authors.
