Scholars in adolescent behaviour identify that the mother has an influential role in adolescent girls’ decision-making concerning sexual health choices, yet this area remains understudied. Despite the various interventions and policies targeting health promotion, sexual health challenges in adolescent girls continue to overwhelm the global community. The article focuses specifically on HIV/AIDS and unintended pregnancies as two areas with the highest prevalence in adolescent girls aged 10–18 years. Using a qualitative, heterophenomenological design, the study provides insight for maximising attachment and bonding as well as time spent by adolescents with their mothers as key factors in promoting the adoption of positive sexual health behaviours.
