Author Biographies

Reinhardt Fourie, University of South Africa

Reinhardt Fourie lectures on Literary Theory and South African literature in the Department of English Studies at the University of South Africa (UNISA). He holds a BA in Languages from the University of Pretoria, an MA in Comparative Modern Literature from Ghent University, and an MA in Literary Studies from KU Leuven. He is currently completing a PhD in Comparative Literature under Andries Visagie at Stellenbosch University. Since 2015, he has served on the executive committee of the Literature Association of South Africa (LASA).

Richard Alan Northover, University of South Africa

Richard Alan Northover currently lectures general literary theory and critical theory in the Department of Afrikaans and Theory of Literature at the University of South Africa. His PhD, obtained at the University of Pretoria in 2010, concerns the work of J.M. Coetzee in relation to animal ethics. In addition to several accredited articles on JM Coetzee, he has published on Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam Trilogy and southern African rock art, both prehistoric and contemporary, placing his work in the fields of animal studies and ecocriticism. Since 2015 he has served on the executive of SAVAL/SASGLS, now renamed LASA, serving as chair from 2016.

 

Neil van Heerden, University of South Africa

Neil van Heerden is a junior lecturer in the Department of Afrikaans and Theory of Literature at the University of South Africa. He recently obtained a PhD in Afrikaans literature from the University of Pretoria. His thesis, completed under the supervision of Willie Burger, investigates the problematic relationship between contemporary Afrikaans crime fiction and the literary canon with specific reference to the novels of Deon Meyer. Neil joined the LASA (formerly SAVAL/SASGLS) executive committee in 2016 and currently serves as secretary and treasurer of the organisation.
